How Scammers Attempted To Use Davido’s N250m Donation To Defraud Nigerians

It is no longer news that the donation made by friends and well-wishers of Nigerian music icon David Adeleke also known as Davido to him during his birthday has been committed to donation to orphanage homes across Nigeria.

However, some unscrupulous elements have carved out a mechanism to use this kind-hearted gesture to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians, which they perpetrate on social media platforms most especially WhatsApp and Facebook.

The Nigeria communications commission NCC has also issued a very important warning to all Nigerians most especially those who are internet savvy to thread with caution concerning the disturbing trend emerging online as a spillover of the donation that made the headlines last week, in this report.

The fraudsters craft messages such as the one shown below, claiming that an airtime or data gift is going as high as 10 gigabytes or 5000 Naira in airtime waiting for whoever clicks the attached links, however, checks by the NCC have shown that instead of data gifts what the links do is spy on the identity of the unsuspecting internet user.

Checkout photo of it below:

This is done by getting a special number called the MSISDN whose full meaning is mobile station international subscriber identity module and other details of the sim, once this number is obtained from the users the scammers now have access to the phone number as well as the ability to gain access to the privacy of the users and thus steal their identity and lots more.

Thus it is highly important not to click the links at all, as just clicking is enough for the scammers to perpetuate their evil activities.
