‘THE KING AND I….
Anniversary of a Magical Moment in History….
On this Day in October in the year 2012, the King of Spain pulled all the stops to accord my humble self, a royal welcome fit for a Princess! O what a day! This Presentation ceremony was magnificent, with the pomp, splendor and trappings of ancient royal diplomatic tradition. The images were breathtaking, as I rode on a beautifully plush horse drawn carriage escorted by the Spanish Royal Guard in a formal Military procession to the Royal Palace. Our National Anthem was played by the Regimental Band amidst cheers as we rode through the city square all the way to the Royal Palace. The feeling was simply magical….it was like a scene out of a Cinderella Fairytale!
Upon arrival at the Palace, I presented my Letters of Credence as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom Of Spain to King Juan Carlos 1, King of Spain. At a private audience we discussed the bilateral relationship between our two countries as well as issues of mutual interest on the international agenda. The event was rounded up with a Banquet in my honour. The spectacular event made front page news in Spain.
On this anniversary. I wish to thank once again President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for this representational opportunity. My profound appreciation also goes to Dame Patience Jonathan for her wonderful support and encouragement. Their implicit belief in my capabilities was justified during my tenure as Head of Mission when I won the ‘Africa’s Outstanding Ambassador Award’ as well as the prestigious ‘Diplomatic Award Of Merit’ by El Mundo Diplommatico Espana. Today I also pay tribute to my dedicated officers and Staff of the Nigeria Embassy in Spain. Together we worked hard to make this tenure a resounding success, and an unforgettable one!
To God be the Glory.’
